100indecisions: my chains are broken (plotbunny)
I had to watch Smallville last night because it was a new episode and Kelsey always has to watch it whether it's new or not, and I think it's the first one I've seen since before Christmas--before inundating myself with Doctor Who fanfic (speaking of which--tell me when you've got enough canon to read Whofic, [livejournal.com profile] faeriemaiden, because I have lots to rec) and season 1, more importantly. And I kept making comments (well, I always do; Smallville is a joy to snark at because all the characters, with the exception of Chloe, are so stupid) of different kinds, but this time they mostly centered on one theme: "This would be SO MUCH BETTER with the Doctor. Pop him in here and he'd have everything sorted within a few hours."

Which is true, so it's excusable. What's not so excusable is this:

At some point between yesterday evening and right now, a plotbunny snuck up on me. And oh, it was subtle--just started off as aimless daydreaming and fantasizing. I didn't recognize it as a plotbunny until it was too late.

By now, I am seriously contemplating writing a Doctor Who/Smallville crossover (pre-Doomsday, mostly; don't know when it would occur in Smallville canon), almost entirely for the single purpose of making Clark Kent look like the idiot he is (and letting the Doctor make a crack about his lack of superintelligence to go along with his other powers). Although, because this is me, it would not be all snark--I'm not sure I'm capable of writing pure snark--because there will be angst, too, primarily because Clark can't really return to his homeworld either, even if the cases are different, and because...well, the "ghosts" did show up everywhere, in the end. Even Smallville.

Don't get me wrong here. I'm not talking about Clark!angst. I don't think I could bear it, especially since canon Clark!angst usually involves Lana Lang, and I hate her. It's more like...implied Ten!angst and Rose!angst because...well, you know. I have to.

In equally cracktastic (but more serious, plausible, and--sadly--obscure) crossovers, I really want to drop the TARDIS on Three Zed and see how Ten (or maybe Nine; haven't decided that, I guess) mixes with Shuhr. Unfortunately, 1) almost nobody would understand it, and 2) I have no idea how they would mix. The Doctor seems to be the only telepath (not a particularly strong one at that, as I understand it) in that canon.

ETA: This could, by some chance, be partly because I finally watched the 2005 Children in Need special, which just reconfirmed that Ten is the most adorkable thing in this universe. Possibly more than one universe. I'm just afraid I can't do him justice--I've never really tried to write him, and considering what a character he is, making sure he's IC would be difficult but crucial.

"This" being, um, having written a fic. But not just any fic, no--a Dr. Who fic. Why is this so out of the ordinary as to warrant italics, you may ask? Well, seeing as my entire knowledge of canon comes from 1) absorbing stuff from [livejournal.com profile] avendya, [livejournal.com profile] ressie_noldo, and a little bit [livejournal.com profile] honorh (and then, realizing later that I have exposed myself to spoilers, going back and re-reading some of said spoilers, and getting depressed about Rose's fate or lack thereof), 2) reading synposes of all the Nine episodes (and the two or three Ten ones I missed) on Outpost Gallifrey, and 3) watching three whole episodes of Ten...the fact that I actually had the gall to write fic already is...

Well, yeah.

And it doesn't help that having never read any Dr. Who fic except Noldo's Ad Infinitum, I have no idea what kinds of things are and aren't written in the fandom, but I'm guessing from the subject matter of my fic that it's the sort of thing everybody and and their mom has already done. That, or something or other has canon'd me and I don't know enough about canon to know it. (I mean, I don't do these things, really. I look up everything on the Lexicon when I'm writing HP fic.)

But, you know, I was just so grateful to get a ficlet plotbunny that let me write it all in one sitting, more or less, that I couldn't stop myself.

Oh yeah, and it doesn't have a title, either.

He thinks, this is the hardest time. )

So I had two plotbunnies last night, and I think they were both...classic badfic, or things that would get me detainment at HFA, or something. And I don't want to let them go.

Plotbunny number 1: a vampire attends Hogwarts. No, really. She was bitten shortly before she got her letter, and her parents arranged for her to go to Hogwarts anyway, making various precautions with Dumbledore--a la Remus going to Hogwarts and all--so she wouldn't endanger herself (sunlight, not getting enough blood) or other students (y'know, the whole "attacking people and sucking their blood" thing could put a damper on the learning environment they're trying to foster).

Plotbunny number 2: a Harry Potter/Lord of the Rings crossover AU thing. Again: no, really. At some point shortly after HBP, Harry and Frodo switch bodies, sort of (which I totally haven't explained, but I did only think of this last night), only they're sort of...mixed up with each other, mentally and physically. Harry, in ME, has a vague idea of what Frodo's been doing his entire life, and Frodo, in Hogwarts, has a vague idea of Harry's life, but not at first, and it probably starts to come to them in dreams. Physically, Harry still has his scar, hair, eyes, etc., but he probably also gets some hobbit features, like the feet or something. Frodo maybe hits four feet, finally. As for language barriers, because of the switch, Harry can think in English and speak in Westron if he doesn't think about it too hard, but if he does think about it, it comes out in English and nobody else can understand him. Latin-based spells come out as Quenya; more rarely, Greek-based ones come out as Sindarin. Same for Frodo, except the other way around. This is all twisted up with Horcruxes, and the Ring essentially being one, which Harry now has to destroy, and some Horcrux back at home that Frodo has to help destroy, and something similar happening between Sauron and Voldemort too, and...oh, it's a mess. But it would be SO MUCH FUN.

I think I should probably be dragged out somewhere and shot. I'm flirting with some of the Unpardonable Sins of Fanfiction. And I want to do them ANYWAY.
