100indecisions: my chains are broken (mae)
I'm in Washington now, currently, to visit my mom's side of the family. It's not as hot here as it was in Minnesota, which is a Very Good Thing (although even there it wasn't nearly as bad as it could have been--we were watching the Weather Channel last night and it seems to be in the 90s and 100s almost everywhere). This hotel has a computer to use free, which is also a Very Good Thing. Also, I slept in the same bed as someone else (my sister, and only my sister, pervs) for the first time in over a year last night, and I actually...had a pretty decent night's sleep.

Unfortunately I didn't really get any writing done at the Corner at all, because...heh...I'm still trying to finish off the journal I should have written every day, but didn't have time, in D.C. I do want a good record of that trip, but it's getting sort of ridiculous. I'll be lucky if I finish it by the flight home and get a little real writing done then.

However, my suitcase--my massive suitcase, jus under the weight limit from other people's stuff and all the garage sale shopping I did in Minnesota--is currently missing. The airline has checked the Portland and Seattle airports, to no avail, and apparently the last resort is the Minneapolis airport. Pray I get it back, okay? I don't need it back soon--I can buy enough clothes and toiletries for the last few days of this trip--but I really, really want this bag back. I got all kinds of great stuff for almost nothing when I was down there: a cheap copy of the new Pride & Prejudice movie, Eats, Shoots & Leaves, a light green prom dress for only $3, a black dress cape, a pair of dress pants, a red cashmere cardigan that's in fairly decent shape, a vintage-looking plaid skirt...well, and then there's all the other clothes I took with me, too, like tank tops I've only worn once, and a pair of jeans I haven't worn at all, and books I got when one of the Christian bookstores in town was closing, and...all kinds of things. So yeah. Some of that--the newer clothes--I can probably replace...I know I've got a couple t-shirts I really like that I can't get back...I'd never be able to get all that great garage-sale stuff back, of course, which would be sad.

Also, I have finally read Pride and Prejudice, and I have decided--based on a sentence near the end of the book--that Mr. Bingley is a Hufflepuff. *nods* He's so cute; I adore him. Mr. Darcy's cooler, of course, but I love Bingley too.

Well, I had some concerns about Daemin and posted about them--vaguely--on Deleterius, and then at [livejournal.com profile] redcoast's suggestion I reposted it (and added some background info) on [livejournal.com profile] oc_analysis. One helpful person gave me a link to a very good Mary Sue test that isn't fandom-specific at all--in fact in can be used for either fanfiction or original fiction (though really, what with the high Sue points gained from being related to/sleeping with canon characters, fandom-specific tests are probably best for fanfic Sues).

Naturally, I ran Daemin through it )

*headdesk* So I tried to post this on [livejournal.com profile] oc_analysis and LJ wigged out on me, with the end result that I posted it here and wondered why no one was responding. Yeah, it's over there now.
Cut if anyone wants to read the post )

Yes. I am sure of this now. Because: sometime last year, [livejournal.com profile] faeriemaiden got her biggest brainstorm for The Song Will Remain while she was in the shower, and because less than a month ago I got bitten by a plotbunny while I was in the library bathroom (though I've not written it yet, still, and I don't remember which one it was).

And today it happened again. And it wasn't a fanfic plotbunny, for the first time in ages. I don't even remember why I was thinking about this, but I wandered into the bathroom today--with a textbook, even, that I was supposed to be reading--and in the back of my mind I was idly thinking about Cydan trying to kill Trin, and why he wanted to do it in a certain place on a certain day, on the anniversary of some awful event (this latter idea from UTT last year, oddly enough).

Well, for reasons I do not understand, the phrase "St. Bartholomew's Day Massacre" popped into my head. I think that was a real historical event, probably something I came across in my history textbook sometime this semester. I don't know what it was. But it doesn't matter: I got that phrase, and I had what can only be described as a real brainstorm, and in about ten minutes I had a whole bunch of everything--all about Cydan, and his semi-tragic past (that does not excuse him from being evil, but at least it gives him something of a reason, which is awesome, and I know now why he's an assassin), and some of his connections with Trin, and why he wants to kill Trin, and why he hates the Brownlows (who STILL NEED NAMES), and more on why Mr. Brownlow hates thieves, and why Cydan has this specific date and place to kill Trin, and...yeah. It was wonderful.

Now I just have to 1) make sure this agrees with what I've already written down about Mr. Brownlow and such, which isn't much, and 2) remember everything until tonight, because with the homework I still have to do in the next hour and fifteen minutes before work, I probably won't be scribbling this down until then.

But still.

This is an amusing quiz )
100indecisions: my chains are broken (Default)

My life is rated G.
What is your life rated?

No, that's not the amusing part. Well, maybe it is, but only if you get your giggles from seeing someone admit they're a prude. >_< No, see...I went and took the quiz again twice, once for Daemin and once for Cydan, just because I could, y'know. Daemin's life is PG-13, and Cydan's is NC-17. I found this highly entertaining. ([livejournal.com profile] faeriemaiden, what do you suppose Lyenna's life would be?)

...and I'm being really dumb right now, because I have my BLOODY HUGE Western Civ final Thursday morning, and I haven't started studying yet. I've meant to, but as usual, I don't want to do it so badly that I've just put it off. Was supposed to start Friday, actually. So I suppose I should really do some of that, like, right now.

Yes, I know, this is practically all I use this journal for anymore...but why not? And anyway, this looked fun, and it's a much tamer version of one I saw awhile ago.

Nicked from [livejournal.com profile] honorh: The PG version of the 12-characters meme (the one that had them all in bed in various combinations). If you want to play, write down your 12 characters before clicking the cut. Mine are:

1. Dustfinger
2. Brennen
3. Abramm
4. Anakin Skywalker
5. Daemin, my own character
6. Aragorn
7. Harry Potter
8. Dru Polar
9. Snape
10. Maddie
11. Firebird
12. Sid the sloth (Ice Age)

So. Click on the cut! )

Man, I already don't have enough time for the writing I want to do, and now all these fanfic plotbunnies are ganging up on me. This is what I've got, so far: )
Now if I could just find some time...!
100indecisions: my chains are broken (eliot winter)
Here's another scene I wrote recently...it takes place the night after Naethiel finds out whose child she is, after which she promptly tries to kill herself and ElurĂn stops her rather forcefully. He makes her promise that she won't do it, and then things just get worse because there's an Orc attack that's probably Naethiel's fault, and no doubt a lot of people die. (They're in Brethil, I believe.) I've actually written most of that scene, too, but it's not finished. This is after the battle for sure, sometime during the night--they may have left Brethil by now. Not sure. I...don't really like this scene...but so I don't corrupt your first impressions too much, I'll say why at the end.

Oh, the wangst )

See, there are lots of problems with this scene, chief among them being the fact that I didn't write it when I should have and so the finished product came out "faded as a handful of withered leaves". I personally think Naethiel sounds way too melodramatic here, almost petulant, and I don't know what to do with that. About the only decent part is the last sentence, which is the one thing I actually remembered. The content is the same, sure--and with that I'm reasonably pleased--but the writing is really pretty poor.

Remember I said...I don't know when...that my book project for The Red Badge of Courage was an interview with Henry Fleming? Well, this won't look as nice as it did when I turned it in, because I made it fancy and magazine-like with Microsoft Home Publishing and I can't really put all of that on here, but this is what I actually wrote. (Yes, it's supposed to be...goofy.)
